in kentucky. brooke, i did talk to a senior romney adviser about their expectations for paul ryan later on this evening. as you will recall, mitt romney told wolf blitzer on qu"the situation room" he thought that paul ryan didn't debate before, perhaps last time was in high school. we went back and talked to the ryan folks about the that and he's debated several times during the course of his congressional career and talked to a senior romney adviser and talked about expectations and guidance, a quote here, it's a new experience for hi anghiccor much more experience in the senate in the two campaigns and then the 2008 general election campaign, the face-off with sarah palin. ryan ing to focus on s substance according to this adviser. you will recall at the last debate in denver everybody talking about zingers. where are the zing efforts? when will the zingers fly? by my count, mitt romney only fired off a couple of zingers during that presidential debate with president obama and so it's possible to see maybe the same tactic tonight for paul ryan. focusing on the substance and the issues

right in the middle of the crisis, governor romney, and you're talking about this again tonight, talked about the weakness, talked about apologies from the obama administration. was that appropriate right in the middle of the crisis in >> on that same day, the obama administration had the exact same position. let's recall, they disavowed their own statement they put out early in the day in cairo. it's never too early to speak out for our values. we should have spoken out right away when the green revolution was starting, when the mullas in iran war attacking their people. we should not have called assad a reformer when he was turning russian provided guns on his own people. we should always stand up for peace, democracy and individual rights and not be imposing these devastating defense cuts. because what that does, when we show -- when we look weak, our enemies are much more willing to test us. and our allies are -- >> with all due respect, that's a bunch of malarkey. >> why is that so? >> nothing he said is accurate. >> be specific. >> i will be very specific. number one, this lecture

on the sunday talk shows, top obama campaign strategists went after mitt romney accusing him of making false statements. today in port st. lucie he fired about. >> you heard his answers or nonanswers. of course days later we hear his excuses, and next january we'll be watching him leave the wlous for the last time. >> reporter: next romney heads to virginia for a major foreign policy speech at the virginian military institute. after that the gop nominee will campaign in more critical battleground states like ohio and iowa. fred. >> thanks so much, jim. >>> for both presidential campaigns, this week could turn out to be as much of a roller coaster ride as last week was since jobs and the economy are what a lot of voters are worried about. i asked dana millbank of the "washington post," between the debate and new jobs numbers, which is the game-changer? >> well, if you asked it before the jobs numbers came out, fredricka, you certainly would say that this changed the fundamentals of the campaign. however, the jobs numbers very quickly erase some of that. we'll begin to say as poll numbers come

with that. can you discern what romney was talking about when he said biden contradicted that sworn testimony? >> well, i would say number one that is probably a reference to eric nordstrom, who was the regional security officer, that means he works for the state department. the diplomatic security side of that. and he -- in sworn testimony he did say that he had asked for more security assistance, more personnel, and that he was refuse refused. you have to get into the subchapters on this. there were requests he made that were verbal. there were requests that were not necessarily formal bureaucratic stamped type of things. so i think we have to really get down into the weeds to say was it a formal request that was turned down, was it a less formal, verbal one et cetera. on the other side, that we that you were talking about, what he's saying is, look, this is handled, the personnel issues are handled by the state department. that type of detail doesn't come to us here at the white house. at least that's what the white house is saying. >> two things going on there. let me throw anot

it meant for the families. when i talked to governor romney about it, i said how would you explain the role of a president and how you have to make life and death decisions. you have to kill people when you're president. how would you explain that to your grand children? he went right to the place of, you know, it's a very high bar before i make that decision. you have to be sure of what you're getting into, what you're going to do, how you're going to succeed and get out. his answer was a little less personal than president obama's. >> you went into this interview, revealing to them this would be less about policy and yeshs and your platform and more about who you are as an individual. >> right. >> both were, you know, equally, i guess eager to reveal themselves in that way? >> they were. the questions -- one question is a good example. i said "reader's digest" has a favorite column called word power. mats yo what's your favorite word in any language? president obama thought for a brief moment and said grace. and he talked about life's graceful moments, the grace that we find within us. an

of this is starting to become some news today. mitt romney in the last couple of days has been talking about former navy s.e.a.l. glen doherty who was killed in -- >> got a little emotional. >> that's right. he got a little emotional yesterday in iowa. he told the story last night, told it again this afternoon, glen doherty died in that consulate attack in benghazi last month. i have to tell you that the mother of that navy s.e.a.l. has asked the romney campaign to stop telling that story. she said in an interview with whdh tv in boston, she doesn't touch romney and she shouldn't make her son's death part of his political agenda. i reached out to andrea saul with the romney campaign and she said that they respect the wishes of mrs. doherty and the campaign confirms to cnn he will no longer be telling that story. so it is interesting to see, you know, mitt romney sort of making some adjustments to his campaign speeches. some of them going over well, some not going over so well, brooke. >> so they will be respecting the mother's wishes to please stop telling the story about her fallen son. jim acosta

and many other viewers out there may be confused on where he stands on this issue. mitt romney, if you listen carefully to what he said, he talks about legislation. well, that's very different as you and i know, brooke, from supporting nominees to the supreme court who would outlaw abortion, who would overturn roe v. wade. that's very different than supporting legislation that would try to do that in congress. and so i think that might be the distinction there that mitt romney is going for. as you mentioned, a few moments ago, he has evolved on this issue over the years and romney has not shied away from that. he admitted back in 2004 that when he was governor of massachusetts that he had had a conversion on this issue. it was when he was basically told about what happened to embryos during stem cell research, that is when he says he had an epiphany on the issue of life and from then on forward he has been pretty staunchly anti-abortion. >> so, let me jump in, because you any, you say distinction, we could call it knnuance, that th nuance on this abortion issue is cropping up as the pr
